July 8: Redistricting Trial Moves Forward

Fun times at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District.  Redistricting Predictions.  As one side — the Republican side — tries to pretend that redistricting has absolutely nothing to do with race, a three judge panel listens to testimony at the federal courthouse in Alexandria, VA.

Attorney’s for Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Bill Howell are actually trying to fool people into believing that their redistricting decisions were just “politics” even though their proposals just happened by some amazing coincidence were drawn in a 99.8 percent racially way.  Maybe drawing districts and just happening to pack all the Black Virginians in the third district was just an amazing coincidence.  Maybe to Republicans this is just basic politics.

Today we get to hear in court the arguments around how it just happen to be the case that all the Black people in Virginia just happen to be in 12 legislative districts. Funny how Republicans just happen to draw the districts that way.
