Gov. McAuliffe Goes Silent on #MarteseJohnson Report Release

File under: The same thing would happen if a Cuccinelli was Governor.  When, to absolutely no one’s surprise, three Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Department officers who were caught on camera arresting a bloodied African American UVA student were cleared of wrongdoing, the related report was kept secret.  The agents then returned to work as if nothing happened.

Images and video of the bloody St. Patrick’s Day arrest of University of Virginia student Martese Johnson, 20, set off protests and became a national story. But the investigation that followed featured a “independent investigation” by the Virginia State Police, ordered by Gov. Terry McAuliffe.  But the report is secret and the Governor isn’t moving to make it public.   This is one of those times when you wonder what the difference between Democrats and Republicans is.

Johnson was charged and arrested with public intoxication — which of course never happens on St. Patrick’s Day — but the charges were dropped in June 2015.
